Learning Overview
Learning Objective
• To evaluate the health and safety of online communities, recognising manipulation and harmful group dynamics, as well as recognising the role technology companies have to play in safeguarding their users.
Learning Focus
• Assess whether online spaces are genuine, safe and well-moderated, and recognise warning signs and patterns of manipulation, grooming or radicalisation.
• Understand why harm can occur in online spaces.
• Contribute positively and know how to respond to harm.
• Recognise the responsibilities of technology companies in preventing harm to their users.
Success Criteria
• I know that online communities can be helpful, but not all groups or content are safe or genuine.
• I can create and share things online to help make the internet a better place.
• I can use media and information to drive positive change, not just avoid harm or passively or critically consume content.
Learning Domain
• Domain 5 - Being Connected.
