At First News, we’ve been delivering engaging, age-appropriate news to young readers for nearly 20 years. As we reflect on 2025, we’re incredibly proud to celebrate another impactful year – from being named Niche Newspaper of the Year to launching our new Media & Information Literacy TeachKit.
We can’t wait to continue the journey with you in 2026 when we’ll be celebrating our 20th birthday!
We printed 1,066,520 copies of our weekly newspaper, on 100% recycled paper.
We published 50 issues of First News, across 1,400 pages.
Our 1,000th issue was published in August!
We had 26,652 users on our app across this year.

Our puzzles were played a total of 202,402 times across the year on the app, with the wordsearch the most popular (played 61,663 times)!
169 junior journalist reports were included in the newspaper (that’s our readers getting their work published!)
Our summer reading programme provided First News to 1,702 families!
We gifted £30,300 worth of book vouchers to schools.
We published 16 blog articles to Tips and Talking Points, informing parents and educators how to navigate the news with their kids.
There were 34,340 downloads of our Printables resources, with Level One News Qs the most popular.
We had 209,283 votes on our Engage Pro polls, across 53 issues that matter to young people.
This September, we launched our new media literacy product, TeachKit: MIL – built to equip young people with the skills to become confident consumers and creators.
There were 1,603 resource downloads across the TeachKit: MIL site. These include our frameworks (co-created with the Media and Information Literacy Alliance), 60+ core resources and fortnightly news-based resources.
