We guest edited the Young Times
After winning the Times Spelling Bee last June, the team, The Purple Blazers, were given a truly exclusive experience: a promised tour of The Times’ headquarters, together with a chance to guest edit the Young Times.
But that wasn’t all. Just to enhance the experience further, the date was chosen to coincide with the launch of Boris Johnson’s and Peter Andre’s Love Libraries Scheme, designed to give pre-schoolers a kick-start in literacy.
After watching the launch at the busy Westfield’s Library, we interviewed the unlikely duo, quizzing each on their favourite books, their motives for the scheme and the importance of literacy for the future of young people.
Then we were whizzed off to News International, where the Young Times editor introduced us to editing before we could return and compose an article in school.
Finally, we talked with some of the top people of The Times who turned the tables and ended up interviewing us themselves!
It was such a great day and we all had a fantastic time.
