First News are committed to protecting the privacy of all visitors to our website at www.firstnews.co.uk. We have drawn up a privacy policy which reflects our legal obligations but also covers areas which, as users or parents ourselves, we would like to have explained. We hope you find it reassuring to understand how we use and protect the information that you provide to us.

First News is published by Newsbridge Limited (a family owned business) which is the sole owner of the information collected on this site. Like most websites, First News collects data from our users at several different points on our website. We will only share aggregated demographic information for Under 16s with our partners and advertisers. In plain English, this means data which is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual. Additionally, we will only share personal information for Over 16s if you tell us we can (see Over 16s section below).

We will not sell, share, or rent this information to others in any way which differs from this statement.
By registering or placing an order on this website, you consent to the collection, use and transfer of your information under the terms of this policy.

Data policy – under 16s

In order to enter competitions, vote in polls and post comments on stories and videos, a user must first complete the registration form. During registration a user is required to give their contact information (such as name and email address). This information is held by Newsbridge Limited. The postal address will only ever be used to contact or send prizes to competition winners.

We will NEVER pass personal individual information of Under 16s on to third parties.

Surveys

First News, working in partnership with Opinion Matters, will occasionally feature surveys to get children’s views on topics which concern them. We will only share aggregated demographic information with our partners and advertisers. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.

Data policy – over 16s

We are committed to managing your personal information in accordance with current legislation and best practice. Our aim is to be responsible, relevant and secure when using your data.

Whenever you provide personal information we will treat that information in accordance with this Notice. We endeavour at all times to keep your data accurate and secure, and to honour your data preferences with regard to receipt of direct marketing e.g. email, mobile messaging and mobile telephone calls.

What information we collect

To provide you with the best possible customer experience we may ask you to submit personal information such as your name, postcode, email address and mobile phone number. Providing this personal information helps us to offer you a better experience e.g. not having to login to websites each time you visit and showing you content that really interests you.

Anonymous data will be recorded for the purpose of reporting web traffic statistics, advertisement 'click-throughs', and/or other activities on our sites.

How we use your data

Any use of personal information is subject to your stated preferences; we and our content partners will always make it clear how you can prevent i.e. opt-out of these uses. You will ALWAYS be given a straightforward way to opt out from our direct marketing each time you receive a communication from us or one of our advertising partners.

Newsbridge Promotions Policy

 

Any person who is an employee or an immediate family member of an employee of First News, BGP, D&S Media, Jordan & Co, Dovetail Services, Associated or any other person who is directly connected with those organisations is ineligible to participate.

By entering the competition, entrants will be deemed to have read and understood these rules and be bound by them.

Competitions are only open to residents of the UK, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man.

 

All decisions will be final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.

 

No purchase necessary.

 

The winner(s) may be required to take part in media activity relating to the competition.

 

Competitions are open to those 18 and under and must have parents/guardians permission to enter.

 

Winner(s) details are available upon written request only. A SAE must be included.

 

All entries must be submitted online via www.firstnews.co.uk or by post to First News, 95 The Street, West Horsley, Surrey, KT24 6DD. Competitions must be received by midnight on the closing date.

First News will select winner(s) at random from all correct entries.

Correct entries will be entered automatically upon submission.

No responsibility will be taken by First News or relevant third party promoters for any answers that are illegible, misdirected, lost for technical or other reasons or received after the closing date.

If for any reason an advertised prize is unavailable First News reserves the right at its absolute discretion to substitute a similar prize of equivalent or greater value.

 

None of the prizes may be exchanged or transferred and no cash alternative will be offered.

 

Only one prize per competition will be awarded per household.

 

Please allow at least 28 days for delivery of all prizes, which are not collected in person.

If the winner(s) of the prize cannot be traced after reasonable efforts having been made by First News and/or relevant third party promoter First News may dispose of the prize as it thinks fit without any liability to the winner(s) for having done so.

Entrants are liable for their costs to access telephone, mobile or computer networks

 

First News reserves the absolute right to disqualify any entrant to any competition which it considers has used improper technical or other means to enter.

Additional T&C’s/restrictions may apply to certain competitions – These will be clearly indicated within the competition.

  1. The promoter of this competition is First News, First News House, 95 The Street, Horsley, Surrey, KT24 6DD (the “Promoter”).  By entering this competition you (“you”/ the “Entrant”) and the parent /legal guardian accept the following terms and conditions:-

The competition is open to United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland residents only excluding employees of Promoter or anyone else connected to the competition and/or their immediate family.  Entries sent via agents or third parties will not be accepted. [All persons entering the competition must be aged 6 or over]

 

3. Only one entry per person

 

4. Entrants must obtain permission from a parent or legal guardian before entering this competition and must submit the telephone number and/or email address of the parent or guardian.  Promoter reserves the right to invalidate entries or the prize winner(s) if the appropriate authorisation is or was not provided.  We regret entries and photographs are non-returnable.

 

5.      Promoter does not accept responsibility for lost, damaged, illegal, illegible, misdirected late entries or verification emails sent by parents but not received by Promoter. 

 

6.      The competition starts on 15th January 2010 and closes at 28th January 2010. To enter the competition and have a chance to win the prize.

7. PRIZE:  1 (one) winner will be selected randomly by the Promoter from all of the valid and correct entries received by midnight on the closing day.  The winner will receive the following prize:-

NOTICES/RESTRICTIONS:  Prize is not suitable for children under the age of 6 years old.

 

8. Prize winner’s/ parent or guardian will receive a confirmation message on XXX - First News to insert how they will be contacted....If no response is received by Promoter within this time, Promoter reserves the right to select another winner. Entrants in their absolute discretion and the Promoter shall have no liability in respect of the entry initially selected.  If the Entrants drawn decline to take part, a further draw will take place and a positive response is received from the parent/ legal guardian.

 

9.    The prize is non transferable.  No cash alternative is available.  In the unlikely event that the prize should become unavailable, the Promoters reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal value.

 

10. The Promoter’s decision on all matters is final and binding on all entrants.  No Correspondence will be entered into.  Entries that do not comply in full with these terms and conditions will be disqualified.

 

11. Prize winners take full responsibility for any and all liability, claims, demands or causes of action they may hereafter have for injuries or damages arising in connection with any prize and the use thereof and agree not to sue or make claim against the Promoter for damages or other losses sustained from using any prize.

 

12.. As far as is permitted by law, the Promoter and its associated companies and agents exclude responsibility and all liabilities arising from any postponement, cancellation, delay or changes to the prize details beyond the Promoter’s control and for any act or default of any third party supplier.  The receipt by winners of any prize is conditional upon the winner complying with any and all applicable laws, rules and regulations including, without limitation, these Competition Terms and Conditions. Unless otherwise stated in the prize description, winners are solely responsible for all costs and expenses associated with claiming prizes including where relevant delivery costs.

 

13. By taking part in this competition you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions and by the decisions of the Promoter which are final in all matters relating to the competition. The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any entrant and/or winner in its absolute discretion for any reason and without notice in accordance with these terms and conditions.
