Oscar the bionic cat gets new legs

After an accident Oscar the bionic cat was given TWO false legs. Watch the video!

OScar the two-year-old cat lost both his back paws when he was run over by a combine harvester.

In a pioneering operation, Oscar had special implants attached to his ankle joints. The pegs, or prosthetics, mean Oscar can walk and run like a cat with four healthy legs.

The prosthetics were developed by a team from University College London led by Professor Gordon Blunn. The vet who carried out the three-hour operation to implant the pegs was conducted by Noel Fitzpatrick.

The rubber-soled pegs have a special coating which helps skin to bond to the implant. This stops the area getting infected and allows the prosthetics to work more naturally.

After spending eight months recovering at the vet’s, Oscar can now walk, run and climb stairs. When he goes home he won’t be allowed out without a harness, for his own safety, to stop him from trying to climb trees.

Noel Fitzpatrick can be seen on the BBC One series, The Bionic Vet.
