Rachael Shardlow, a 10-year-old-girl from Australia, has become the first person in the world to survive a sting from the world's most poisonous jellyfish.

A 10-year-old-girl is the first person to survive a sting from most poisonous creature in the world; the box jellyfish

Rachael Shardlow, a 10-year-old-girl from Australia, has become the first person in the world to survive a sting from the world's most poisonous jellyfish.

Rachael was swimming in Calliope River in Queensland Australia when she was attacked by the box jellyfish.

She called to her 13-year-old brother for help who pulled her out of the river as she fell unconscious. 

Jamie Seymour, a tropical animal specialist from James Cook University was shocked that 

Rachael survived. He said: "When I first saw the pictures of the injuries I just went, 'you know to be honest, this kid should not be alive. I mean they are horrific.


"Usually when you see people who have been stung by box jellyfish with that number of the tentacle contacts on their body, it's usually in a morgue."

Rachael has some scarring and some short-term memory loss but is expected to make a full recovery.

    shes poor and lucky and im glad she survived. she s poor because shes now got to live with short term memory nd scars so she remembers what happened. Shes lucky because she survived. Im glad she survived! :)

    My friends dad was stung by a box jellyfish and he's very much alive. Rachael Shardlow wasn't the first person to have survived a box jellyfish sting. May I rephrase my first sentence, My friends dad was stung by a box jellyfish and he died but he is still alive. I know very confusing but true, but I think he was stung less severely than Rachael Shardlow I saw pics of her scars.

    She was amazing to have survived the sting. In the summer I got stung and it really hurt but that was only from a wasp so I feel so sorry that she got stung.
