First News launches the My Way! campaign at 10 Downing Street
First News launches the My Way! campaign at 10 Downing Street. Because every child learns differently and every child can succeed.
This Wednesday, First News will be launching the My Way! campaign at 10 Downing Street hosted by Sarah Brown, with Henry ‘The Fonz’ Winkler and Children’s Secretary, Ed Balls. My Way! aims to raise awareness of the fact that one in five children have learning challenges. We want to dispel the myth that these children are less intelligent and show that every child can succeed. And we’d like you to become part of it.
Henry is the campaign Ambassador. You know him as the author of the successful Hank Zipzer books about a boy with dyslexia, while your parents probably know him as ‘The Fonz’ from the TV show Happy Days.
Henry and the First News Editor Nicky Cox will visit some of you in your schools as part of the 2010 First News My Way! reading tour in June. But, for those of you we don’t get to meet in person, First News will be carrying weekly stories in support of the My Way! campaign in the paper and on Firstnews.co.uk over the next six months.
Henry says: “What I need every child to know is that, no matter how they learn, they have greatness inside them. Their job is to dig it out and give it to the world and I cannot wait to see who they become.”
So through My Way! we hope that all children will hear the message that, no matter how they learn, it makes no difference to how great they are. Indeed Henry says he became who he is today BECAUSE of his learning challenges.
Now there’s a thought!

Hi Seaturtle, Ignore the dates - if I put a date in 2011 it means that the article will stay at the top of the page. I sometimes do this to make sure that everyone sees important polls and articles. Well done for noticing though! Nic :)

I wanted to share with you how i learn and that i have spent the past 4 -5 years really struggling with English and Math’s .I havin been feeling as if i dont have a clue what is going on in class and hated school. I cant remember my spellings, reading is tricky and math’s .My Mum says i am Dyslexic School but since i have learnt that i have a great picture libaray in my brain and instead of sounding word out the phonic way i picture the words, i can remember to spell the word forward and backwards i now get 10/10 in my spelling. One day my mum took me to see a man called Andrew Bendefy who runs a Invest Inside Yourself r Program. i dont feel stupid and understand that i can learn but need to learn in a different way and i have a brilliant visual memory. I just wish that that i had started lreaning this way from the start as now i have a lot of catching up to do . my mum says that most people are like a pc computer but i am like a mac , we both do the same job but in a differnt ways . P.s I am starting to like school x
