12-year-old boy wears a skirt to school to protest against uniform rules
A 12-year-old boy has worn a skirt to school to protest his school banning shorts for boys
A boy is wearing a skirt to school to protest his school's uniform policy which bans shorts.
12-year-old Chris Whitehead says that trousers are too hot and that it's "discriminatory" that girls can wear skirts in the summer, but boys can't wear shorts.
Other pupils at the school showed their support with placards saying, "Cool shorts, not hot pants", "Shorts for the long-term" and "What's wrong with my legs?"
"In the summer, girl students are allowed to wear skirts but boys are not allowed to wear shorts," said Chris. "I realised short skirts are allowed but shorts are not, which means there is something wrong in the rules and it should be changed.
"I thought I could use this silly loophole to my advantage
"Wearing shorts is better because it keeps us cooler, especially at the moment because the weather recently has been really hot."
Chris's head teacher Mr Campbell said:"Ultimately the boys can wear a skirt to school because it doesn't say they can't in the uniform policy and we would be discriminating against them if we did not allow it.
"Chris is a very bright and articulate student and we have got a very strong student council. He is one of only two year eight pupils on it."
What do you think? Should boys be allowed to wear skirts to school?

Good for him! He wants something and he's found a brilliant way to do it! Boys should be allowed to wear shorts; they're skirts for boys!

I think he has made his point and although it sounds sill it is a very sensible idea to do this. I agree with him that it is unfair that girls can wear skirts whereas boys have to wear trousers even in the summer!
redhorse10 (Age 14) wrote on Monday, 16 May 2011 @ 16:16
Chris has made a very good point and has protested about the fact that boys aren't allowed to wear shorts but girls can wear skirts. This is unfair because boys would get really hot whilst girls are allowed to be cooler. I think that he protested purpousfully and deserves to make his voice heard. Good for him! :)
Funkychic (Age 10) wrote on Monday, 16 May 2011 @ 16:21
It is good that he is fighting for what he wants. I think the boys should be aloud to wear shorts. Skirts and shorts are like the same. The only differance is that shorts hae leg holes.

I think Chris is making a very good, clear and strong argument, whilst at the same time telling everyone about the unfairness of his school's uniform rules. However,I don't think that he should wear a skirt to school,as that is very silly, and shows the school up in a very bad way.The school seem very stubborn on the 'no shorts' rule, which I think is plain stupid.Go Chris!;)

Chris is only making a fair point as I have personlly noticed that not very many high schools are allowing boys to ware shorts. This matter should generally be encouraged as there is nothing wrong with shorts and Mr.Campell has made a wrong turn that needs to be put right! But unfortantley this is only my opion and I hope Chris can get through with this moving campain thanks.

Well done why should boys have to wear trousers in hot weather conditions? Their legs will be hot and stuffy and this will cause lack of consentration. It is not against the school rules so why shouldn't boys wear school skirts? just because boys don't usually wear school skirts and skirts are usually seen on girls doesn't mean that they can't. This just shows you if you really believe in something yoiu can acheieve it!
