Conservation
The overall aim of Center Parcs biodiversity planning is to maintain and enhance the wildlife value for the benefit of wildlife conservation in the local and national context, as well as ensuring a wealth of wildlife for the benefit of guests. Biodiversity means the natural variety of living things. Center Parcs sites were specifically chosen in areas with low or damaged biodiversity with the result being a huge improvement of the biodiversity on all villages. Monitoring the number of species on each village is an annual measure and helps to record successes in encouraging and protecting those species which are nationally scarce and in fact, those that are in the Red Data Book (species whose continued existence is threatened). Sherwood is one of the most valuable wildlife sites in Nottinghamshire. The Bullfinch, a bird of conservation concern, is breeding at Sherwood. Whinfell Forest is home to one of Britain’s last remaining colonies of red squirrels. The rare Twayblade Orchid has been discovered at Elveden Forest and Longleat Forest has had breeding success with, among others, Marsh Tits and Firecrests.
