Since the first Disney theme park, Disneyland, opened in California in 1955 kids of all ages (and adults too) have dreamed of visiting a Disney park to meet Mickey Mouse and his famous friends. Check out these cool facts about the parks.

58,000 cast members (staff) work at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

6 parks make up Walt Disney World Resort. They are the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Plus water parks Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. There are also Disney parks in Paris, California, Hong Kong and Japan with China coming soon.

27,400 acres of land make up the Walt Disney World Resort complex in Florida.

2 fingers is how many Disney cast members should point with when giving directions. One finger pointing is considered rude in some cultures.

36.2m is how high the Magic Kingdom in Orlando is from sea level. It is actually built on the second story. A labyrinth of tunnels runs underneath the park, where cast members can travel from one area to another without being seen by guests.

1928 is the year Mickey Mouse was created by the Walt Disney Company.

325 different animals are carved into the trunk of the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

57.6m high is the height of Cinderella’s Castle at Walt Disney World in Florida, it took 18 months to build. Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in Disneyland is 28.7m high and Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant (Sleeping Beauty’s Castle) in Disneyland Paris is 50.9m high.

10 steps is the average you will have to walk to find a litter bin in any Disney park.  

289 animatronic dolls, 147 toys and 36 animated props make up the It’s a Small World ride at Walt Disney World. The first It’s a Small World opened in 1966 at Disneyland, California. 

10 years ago Disney launched Pin Trading within Disney parks. Guests collect colourful pin badges which they can buy, or trade with fellow guests or Disney cast members. More than 350 million pins have been traded in Disney parks since 2000.

104.3 km/h is the maximum speed on Test Track at Walt Disney World, making it the fastest ride at any Disney park.

1,105 firework shells are set off every night during Epcot’s IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth show. It’s stunning.

26°05’N 77°32’W are the co-ordinates for Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas. The Disney Cruise Line docks here and guests can see the Flying Dutchman ship from the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
