Boulders Beach is a famous beach in South Africa where people can get up close and swim with wild African penguins.

Boulders Beach gets its name from the granite boulders that create the bay that surrounds the beach.

The boulders are believed to be around 540 million years old.

In 1982 a colony of African penguins made the beach their home.

Around 3,000 penguins now make up the colony.

Visitors to the beach can walk within a metre of the penguins, along specially constructed boardwalks.

The penguins often take to the water and swim alongside lucky tourists!

You shouldnt try to touch the penguins, even if they do come close to you as you may harm or frighten them. They are also wild animals and unpredictable.

Visitors to the beach are asked not to feed the penguins as it can alter their feeding habits and make them reliant on people for food.
