Today is World Day Against Child Labour, organised by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
The aim of today is to highlight how many child labourers there are in the world, and to stop the practise. “Human Rights and Social Justice – let’s end child labour” is this year’s theme.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) say that approximately 127 million boys and 88 million girls are involved in child labour across 197 countries.
Child labour is not just bad for the children: it stops them from getting a good education and can cause them harm, it is bad for the country. Because child labour is cheap, it means less well-paid jobs for adults.
The ILO hope to stop child labour by 2016 by speaking to companies and helping families.
