Robot builders
Tall buildings could be built by robotic aircraft in the future, if new research is anything to go by.
If you watch the video below, you can watch a team of quadrotor robots (like a helicopter, but with four rotors) build various towers from standard parts.
The robots all have a gripper that can pick up the pieces and carry them horizontally or vertically. The parts have magnetic ends so that they can fit together easily.
Although the way the robots work together is impressive, it will take a lot more work before they can make regular buildings. The towers that they have built in the lab are quite basic, but it is possibly a sign of how things could be done in the future.
The work is being carried out at the University of Pennsylvania’s GRASP (General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception) lab in the US.
