Making a paper plane with a robot
A surgeon in the US has used a million pound robot to make tiny paper aeroplanes in between operations.
Dr James Porter of the Swedish Medical Center used the da Vinci robot’s tiny claws to fold up a paper plane the size of a penny.
The da Vinci robots are used worldwide to help surgeons carry out delicate operations. The robot has a pair of delicate grippers that are controlled by a surgeon using two controllers and a 3D display. The system helps to avoid cutting large holes in patients and speeds up their recovery times. It is also very good for delicate operations because software helps to remove any shaking from the surgeon.
