Magical Mentors in Film

In The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, physics student Dave must become an apprentice to 1,000 year old Sorcerer Balthazar in order to save the world! To celebrate the release of film which is out now, we’ve taken a look at other magical mentors in film who try to teach young people the ways of world through magic!

Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins)

Mary joins the Banks household to teach troublemakers Jane and Michael Banks to respect their parents, but also teaches Mr. Banks to spend more time with his children, who won’t need him forever! With a spoonbful of sugar, everyone learns to get along a little better.

Albus Dumbledore ( Harry Potter)
The headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry looks after every young witch and wizard and ensure they learn all the spells and incantations they need, but he pays particular attention to Harry Potter, the young wizard who survived an attack from the evil Lord Voldemort.

Merlin (The Sword in the Stone)

One of the most famous wizards of all time, Merlin helps a young boy, Arthur to learn to read and learn about the world, and guides him when Arthur pulls the sword from the stone and becomes King of England!

 Nanny McPhee  (Nanny McPhee)

In a last ditch effort to control his children Cedric Brown hires Nanny McPhee, a peculiar lady with a very peculiar face.  Armed with her magic stick Nanny McPhee sets about changing the children’s ways, with her unusual features disappearing every time the children learn a lesson.

Eglantine Price (Bedknobs and Broomsticks)

This daring witch adopts three young children who think she is strict and boring, until they find out she is a witch and go on an adventure on a bed, swim under the sea with singing fish and battle the Nazi’s with an army of suits of armour!

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is released in cinemas nationwide on 11th August.
