Indian couple have children taken away for feeding them with their hands
An Indian couple living in Norway have had their children taken away from them by social services for feeding them with their hands and sleeping in the same bed as them.
Anurup and Sagarika Bhattacharya had their two children taken away by Norwegian social services eight months ago.
The couple were accused of inappropriate behaviour because they fed their children with their hands and slept in the same bed as them.
Anurup Bhattacharya said, “Feeding a child with the hand is normal in Indian tradition.”
Although the Indian government has tried to help, Norway’s Child Protection Service is refusing to back down.
The children will now only be allowed to see their parents twice a year until they’re 18.
Lots of people say that Norway's Child Protective Services are too strict.
Lawyer Svein Kjetil Lode Svendsen said: "There has been a report in UN in 2005 which criticized Norway for taking too many children in public care.
"The amount was 12,500 children and Norway is a small country."
