I got to go to Disneyland to try out Disney's brand new Wii game...
I got to go to Disneyland Paris to learn about, and to play, a new Wii game coming out this month called Epic Mickey.
I had a really good time. I got to meet Warren Spector and Paul Weaver who created Epic Mickey. Warren loves Mickey Mouse and told us a bit about Mickey, like that he was first created in 1928! I really didn’t know much about Mickey Mouse before this. Now I do and the game they have made is for everybody, even mums and dads.
At the beginning of the game you see a cartoon showing you how Mickey got to be in the game and how he discovers the paint and thinner which help him a lot. But Mickey decides to play around with the paint and thinner and ends up creating a monster. You also get to see some old Disney characters who have been forgotten, like Oswald the lucky rabbit who is Mickey’s older brother. They don’t like each other very much but Mickey tries to fix this in the game.
The whole of this game is set in, and around, Disneyland. All the way through you can spot things like Sleeping Beauty’s Castle and some of the rides in the park that come alive. The land that Mickey is in is called the wasteland. It’s where all the old and forgotten characters live. Mickey quickly realises he is not a forgotten character and needs to get home fast.
After watching the cartoon, Warren and Paul showed us how to play a couple of the levels that you will find further into the game. One was Tortuga, which is based around the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. The aim was to complete quests given to you by Beluga Billy.
After the talk it was my turn to play the game and I was so excited. I played from the beginning and one of my quests was to find some gears or cogs to open a big gate. This was great fun. Using the paint and thinner is like creating your own game level. I discovered a trapped gremlin so I had the tough decision to save the gremlin or have the goodies in the chest next to him. I decided to save him which I think worked out well because he helped me with the level. I was told that if I hadn’t saved the gremlin there would have been a consequence and, if I’d come across him later in the game, he may not be so nice or helpful. In this game you have to be really careful about your decisions as there is always a consequence that follows.
After playing the game I got to go into the Disneyland parks. It was so exciting. All the rides were great fun and everywhere I went I was thinking: “Oh, I’ve seen this part in the game.”
I also got to have a drawing lesson with Fabrizio who taught me how to draw Mickey Mouse. With a little bit more practice I think I will be as good as Fabrizio one day. Fabrizio also drew me a picture of Pluto and signed it. That made me really happy because he is one of my favourite characters.
I had such a good time in Paris. I learned a lot of really cool stuff about Mickey and had a lot of fun in the park.
Now I really can’t wait for this game to come out. It is so good.
