Heidi the cross-eyed opossum has over 50,000 fans on Facebook!
A cross-eyed opossum called Heidi has over 50,000 fans on her Facebook page.
On her page, two-year-old Heidi tells visitors that from 1 July 2011 she can be visited at the Leipzig zoo - but asks that not all 50,000 show up at the same time!
Heidi is so popular in Germany that there are stuffed toy versions of her, a fan club and even a YouTube hit (see below).
No-one is sure why Heidi is crossed-eyed, but one explanation is that she suffered from a poor diet as a baby. Her eyes do not cause her any pain, and she is otherwise a normal opossum!
