First News chats to the newest star of the Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Boo Boo Stewart. Boo Boo plays the youngest member of the wolf pack, Seth Clearwater. He tells us all about life on the set of Eclipse – and why he’d rather be a wolf than a vampire.

How excited are you joining such a huge franchise?
It feels really good. Everyone was so nice. When I walked on set they all shook my hand and introduced themselves. And between takes, Kirsten came up and said hi to me. It made me feel welcomed and relaxed. The film’s fans are so loyal and dedicated. It’s amazing.
Are you excited about the fanmania, or does it scare you slightly?
I always have my family with me so that’s great. They keep me grounded, so as long as they’re there, it’s awesome. So I’ll be fine. I think. I hope I’ll be fine!
How do you see Seth’s character?
Seth Clearwater is kind of like the peacemaker between the wolves and the vampires. He’s the only wolf who’s a friend with a vampire, so that’s pretty neat. He’s just really excited and anxious to get out there and fight. He’s definitely fearless in the film.
Seth’s a bit of a hero in this film: have you ever done anything heroic?
I’m not really sure. I’m a pretty relaxed person and I’ve not been put in the position to do anything really heroic. But one day I’ll save someone’s life!
Did you have to hit the gym for this film? Because I know the wolves spend
a lot of time with their tops off…
I definitely had to hit the gym. My mum’s a personal trainer, so she trained me. She was on my case, but it was for the film, so it was a good thing. No-one’s really competitive about it, iIt was just a fun time and we were all excited to film.
What’s it like seeing yourself turn into a wolf?
I’ve seen it and it’s awesome. I wish I could do that in real life.
 How did you film it?
Unfortunately, when we’re wolves, it’s all digital – CGI, so I didn’t get to put on any outfit or anything. I wish I could have worn a wolf costume to battle it out in, but it wouldn’t have looked as cool! I don’t think the fans would have been as pleased if we were all in wolf costumes!
Mm, maybe not! Did you have a favourite scene from the film?
I won’t tell you my favourite part in the film because it’s not out yet, but my favourite part in the book is definitely the fight scene at the end: the final fight.
So how similar is the film to the book?
From what I’ve read, it seems fairly true to the book. The fans should be pretty happy and there’s going to be some action, which is great. And they’re keeping the romance in too.
Which book was your favourite to read?
Eclipse is definitely my favourite. Before I got the part, this fan contacted me about Seth Clearwater’s role because they thought I’d be really good to play the part. So I called the agent and I got an audition. I was the first to be seen in the country actually, so right there I started to read the book before my audition and I was hitting the gym, just to go in and give 110%.
How did you get involved in acting in the first place?
Well, my dad is an actor and a stunt coordinator and my older sister was doing a stunt for him on a movie. I thought it looked really cool, so I gave it a go. I did stunts first and gradually I got more into acting and music so it kind of came into play that way.
Did you take any souvenirs from the Eclipse set?
Only in my stomach – I ate a lot. Free food all day! But having your shirt off all day means you can’t eat that much.
If you could be a vampire or wolf in real-life, which would you be?
Definitely a wolf. Wolfs can be animal and human: you can’t change from vampire.
Why should we go and see the film?
Ooh, because David Slade is an incredible director and he did a great job with Eclipse. There’s going to be action and romance and it’s going to be better. Every movie gets better and this one is going to be really good.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is in cinemas from 9 July 2010.
