First News interviews The Wanted about 2010!
They were THE hottest new band of 2010 and, with a new tour and single lined up for 2011, it’s clear The Wanted boys are here to stay. To celebrate, Max, Jay and Siva have given us a run down of some of their best moments so far!
Most exciting moment so far?
Max: Walking out of Radio One, after finding out we were number one with All Time Low, to see hundreds of fans out there waiting for us.
Jay: Meeting Robbie Williams! I was so star struck. He was lovely and I couldn’t really talk. He asked me about what I did and about the band and I think I just garbled at him. I wouldn’t say that I was fanatical about him, but he sang Angels and he has performed some of the biggest gigs ever and there he was, a metre in front of me!
Siva: Performing at the Help For Heroes gig in Twickenham. We were on stage waiting in a box which we were going to break out of on stage. That moment before the box fell apart was just amazing. All of us were shaking with excitement. It was ridiculous and, the moment before they said our name, there was dead silence and then this huge scream as the box with us in it opened up.
Most embarrassing moment?
Max: Probably when we had a big group picture with a load of fans. I was right at the front and I had some green shorts on but I’d obviously spilt a drink down me and I had a massive wet patch. I didn’t even know until I got loads of texts about this picture, and it was all over Facebook, looking like I’d wet myself!
Jay: When we were on the Lottery I got everyone back home to gather and watch it and, just after we pushed the button, we stepped back and I almost fell off the stage. Max nearly wet himself laughing! I was like: “Brilliant! Not only is the whole nation watching me but a room full of people back home.” I bet they were like, yep, he’s still an idiot, he hasn’t changed!
Siva: Me and Jay have both had situations where our trousers have fallen down. We had one radio gig where my fly button flicked off and across the stage and I had to spend the whole performance holding my trousers up. There’s a recording of it as well. It’s really funny, I’m panicking and turning my back to the audience. These things happen, you just have to deal with it!
Most glamorous moment?
Max: We went to Singapore and we stayed in a five star hotel called the Fullerton Bay and it had one of those pools that goes off the roof. What are they called? Infinity pools. It was so cool! The hotel was insane.
Jay: When we were in LA we did a sightseeing tour just for a bit of fun. I looked around and there were all these people there to look after us – we had an entourage! I was like: “We’re in LA, we’ve got an entourage and we aren’t even doing anything exciting. We are just looking at the Hollywood sign!”
Siva: Oh, I know! We went away for a few days to stay on a private yacht in France. It was ridiculous, three days on an amazing yacht, chilling out in the sun. Everything was free and we were like: “Woah, who actually gets to do something like that in their lifetime?”
Most bizarre moment?
Max: We did this photoshoot for a magazine and we had to blow feathers out of our hands and that was a strange moment. The pictures never got used in the end. I think even the people who organised the photoshoot thought it wasn’t quite right!
Jay: When I went to watch the extended version of Avatar, there was a giant poster of us in the cinema, lit from behind. That was weird. A girl gave me a 3D picture of Avatar as a present. That is weird but very, very cool.
Siva: We did one photoshoot on a roof of a building and the guy drenched us in water and it was freezing. He blew dry smoke on us and we were there for about ten minutes freezing cold, dripping wet, huddling together. That was weird. Not very glamorous at all. Another bizarre thing is that our diary is all booked up. We know exactly what we’re doing until March. What kind of job is that?!
The Wanted’s new single, Lose My Mind, and the album, The Wanted, are out now.
