Chester Zoo tiger cub dies
One of three baby tiger cubs born at Chester Zoo last Octover has died of an unknown illness
Sumatran tiger cub Ashme died this afternoon after a very short illness.
The cause of the illness is not yet known and a post-mortem will be carried out.
Mum Kirana and the remaining siblings, Nila and Tila are healthy and doing well.
The 12-week-old cubs were being given their second round of vaccinations, and had been previously given a clean bill of health.
The cubs were born at Chester Zoo on Oct 21 2011.
With only 400 Sumatran tigers thought to remain, their arrival was great news for the future of the species.
The triplets were to be used in breeding programmes to prevents the wild population from becoming extinct.
