Nicky Cox
A mum, an MBE and an editor of a busy newspaper – we have no idea how Nicky does it.
Before founding First News along with Piers Morgan back in 2006 Nicky worked at the BBC launching more than 50 children's magazines ranging from Teletubbies to Top of the Pops. She was also editorial director responsible for all BBC children's books, DVDs and brand development. Nicky has been a BAFTA judge for children's programmes and, while at the BBC, she was executive producer of Top of the Pops charity concerts at Wembley in aid of ChildLine featuring Boyzone, Dannii Minogue and Take That.
As a young reporter, Nicky was named Young Journalist of the Year shortly before working as a sub editor on The Sunday Times.
Nicky got the idea for a newspaper for children back when she was about 12 and found it hard to follow adult news because she didn't know the history behind the stories.
She has done regular speeches at Downing Street and The Houses of Parliament and tours UK schools every year with campaigner Henry "The Fonz" Winkler promoting the awareness, acceptance and brilliance of children with learning challenges.
Nicky was awarded an MBE by the Queen in 2009 for her services to children. People like Esther Rantzen who started ChildLine, Peter Phippen who is a boss at the BBC and Jasmine Whitbread, the Chief Executive from Save The Children, all wrote her testimonials. We are all really proud of her.
