Young reporters have a fun day out at the BETT show

On Friday the 13th we all went to an exciting exhibition called the BETT show.

The BETT show stands for British Educational Training Technology. After an hour of travelling we finally arrived at the immense Kensington Olympia. As we walked in, our eyes widened with glee. It is a two story high exhibition centre filled with teachers looking for the latest technology to help children’s education.

Firstly, we arrived at Poly Vision - the stall that caught our eye first. It had a whiteboard that was interactive, and can be used as a normal board. When we were using it was really fun because it was perfectly calibrated and easy to use. All of its options were on a strip that you just touched with a pen. I wish we had it at our school!

Another stall we looked at was Skoolbo. It was a game which was like mathletics but it was English as well. You would be in a race with someone around the world. To win, you had to answer a question and if you get it right you player would move.

After lunch we saw a stall called Strata Logica that helped teachers teach Geography. You can look at all the different countries; it was also in 3D. You can interact with the screen. Also you can find all about the natural disasters and news in the world.

One of the stalls we looked at was Lego Education which was software you download on to your computer and it will control different Lego models. There was a crocodile with a sensor, so when you put your finger down it bites you. Plus, there was a car that followed a black line round in circles. We all loved that stall. We all had a really fun and exciting day out at the BETT show!

Parish CofE Primary School

Oliver, Celine, William and Victoria from Parish C of E Primary School, Bromley, represented First News on Friday the 13th January 2012 at the 2012 BETT fair at Kensington Olympia, London. Everyone was hyped and could not wait to get started.

Some people gave deluded looks as we offered the paper whilst most accepted with a gleaming smile. To one person, Oliver said “The First News stand is not the biggest but definitely the most important, popular and certainly my favourite!”

As we strolled around the stunning grand emporium on the violet carpet, we gazed at the variety of technology wonder. We came to the acquaintance of our entire favourite stand; Casio. Casio stood out to be our favourite out of many outstanding stalls, including Lego Education and an exceptional stall with a 3D printer, where you could enter a picture into the machine and it created a 3D model of the entered photograph.

At the mathletics stand, we all found out many interesting facts, such as a school that is subscribing to Mathletics in Abu Dhabi has over 2500 students as users of the programme. We all also found out that over 2 million students use the online maths and spelling webpage.

As the day came to a close, it was a frantic race to give away copies at the First News stand. After hours of hard advertising, the number of given copies came to an astounding grand total of 849! However there were more visitors after we left which pushed it up over an astonishing 1000! It was a fabulous achievement, however sadly all good things come to an end and five minutes later we were standing on the platform waiting for the tube home.
