Young carers are being bullied

Young carers are being bullied

New research by the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and the Children’s Society, has found that young people who care for a relative feel stressed and are bullied.

The two charities spoke to 700 young carers. Nearly seven out of ten children and teenagers who are carers say they have been bullied at school. A third of them say that, while they’re at school, they worry about the person they care for.

Around a third of the kids who have been bullied say that it’s because they’re a carer. Many carers say their teacher doesn’t know about their situation and they don’t feel like they can tell them.

Carole Cochrane, chief executive at The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, says: “It is shocking to discover that so many young carers have to endure bullying, mental health problems and a lack of support from their teachers, all because they care for a family member who is unable to cope without their help.”

This is really sad news. What is the POINT of bullying people who are caring enough to have the responsibility of looking after a family member unable to look after themselves?

Probably beacause they spend so much time looking after others, they have no time to watch their own back and make sure nothing bad come happen. Sorry about how rubbish that sounded it sounded better in my head!

That is really sad-the young carers are dealing with enough already without having to deal with bullying aswell on top of that :-)

Why should the bullying carry on? Young people need to realise that they are special and should not treat their carers like a piece of dirt because otherwise when they need them they won't listen or be there for them anymore. This is sad news and should not happen! :(
