YOU think that bullying should be a crime
First News teamed up with the charity Beatbullying to ask you if you thought that bullying should be a crime. This is what you said...
Secretary of state for children, schools and family Ed Balls wanted to know whether YOU thought that bullying should be a crime. So First News teamed up with the UK charity Beatbullying and asked you what you thought.
1,000 of you have voted so far (if you haven't voted yet go here now) and we found out that a massive 75% of you think that bullying SHOULD be a crime.
Emma-Jane Cross, CEO of bullying prevention charity Beatbullying, who helped First News poll young people’s views on whether bullying should be a crime, said:
"Bullying is one of the biggest concerns for young people today with one million children being bullied every week, inside and outside of school.
"A number of very serious cases have been seen by the courts recently raising the question again of whether bullying should be made a crime.
“It’s been really interesting to see what young people’s views are on this issue.
“After all, it is children’s voices that should be heard when considering whether new legislation should be brought in.
“We at Beatbullying believe that the government has a duty to ensure that aggressors of bullying are deterred, and the victims protected – we’re interested to hear what they say next following this First News campaign.”

I kind of think that it should be a crime because: Sticks and stones may hurt our bones but words can kill. It ruins many children's lives and it HURTS After a certain point, many peolw believe the bullies STOOOP! Teachers should listen and take more action if you tell them. STOP BULLYING!! x

Bullying is horrible. There should be a law passed against it with large punishments if you break it.

I think that bullying should be a crime because of the bad impact on childrens' lives but if it was a serious crime juvenile detention facilities would be full.

I disagree, bullying should not be a criminal offense because the reason a bully bullies is because there is something wrong with them, so they should be punished, but they need help, and giving them a criminal record isn't helping.
