Burj Dubai

World's tallest building opens

A new record has been set for the world’s tallest building.

The Burj Dubai, which means Dubai tower in Arabic, is more than 800m tall. That’s nearly 300m taller than the previous record holder – the Taipei 101 in Taiwan.

The Burj Dubai is about twice the height of the Empire State Building in New York and has a mixture of offices and apartments.

The building’s spire can be seen 95km away and more than 28,200 glass panels cover the outside of the building.

It took 12,000 people six years to build.
