World Cup news and results - day seven

We had to wait a week for the World Cup to come to life, and today it did, with ten goals, a red card, a penalty and a hat-trick.

The day's first game saw an excellent Argentina side beat the unlucky South Korea 4-1. The scoreline was a bit harsh on the Koreans, especially after their excellent second-half performance.

Argentina's first strike was an unlucky own goal for South Korea, and Gonzalo Higuain made it 2-0 on 33 minutes. Argentina were far superior in the first half, but a poacher's goal for Lee Chung-yong in injury time gave South Korea inspiration. They missed good chances to equalise before Higuain scored another two simple close-range goals to complete his hat-trick.

Greece v Nigeria was a pretty dull match until Nigeria's Sani Kaita foolishly kicked out at Vasileios Torosidis. His red card changed the game and made Greece go on the attack. A massive deflection made it 1-1 just before half-time, then Nigeria keeper Vincent Enyeama made one of his only mistakes in the 71st minute and palmed a shot straight into the path of Torosidis, who stabbed it home to make it 2-1. This was the first match that Greece have ever won at the World Cup.

A truly appalling France side was totally outclassed by the pacy Mexico team in the day's last game. Man Utd's Javier Hernandez made a fantastic run into miles of space, then rounded the keeper to make it 1-0. France's top-class players didn't look like they believed they could win, and were put out of their misery when Eric Abidal conceded a penalty to allow Cuauhtemoc Blanco to put the Mexicans two up.

If Uruguay and Mexico draw their match next week, France and South Africa will both be out of the tournament.

Results from day seven:

Argentina 4-1 South Korea

Greece 2-1 Nigeria

France 0-2 Mexico
