World Cup news and results - day fifteen (Friday 25)
The favourites Spain have booked their place in the World Cup's knockout stages, thanks to an outrageous goal from David Villa.
Spain beat Chile 2-1 in their Group H clash. Spain's first came when Chile keeper Claudio Bravo rushed out to knock the ball away from Fernando Torres. The ball landed at the feet of Villa, who smacked it first time from 40 yards over the defence and into the empty goal.
Spain then went two up after a great placed finish from Andreas Iniesta. Chile pulled one back at the start of the second half through a deflected shot that wrong-footed Iker Casillas, but it wasn't enough. Chile still went through in second place because Switzerland failed to beat Honduras. Their 0-0 draw was a letdown after Switzerland's early defeat of Spain.
In Group G, Brazil v Portugal was a boring no-score draw which caused some fans to boo the teams at the end. If the teams had met in the knockout stages it might have been different, but neither needed to win to go through, and it showed.
In the group's other match, Ivory Coast beat North Korea 3-0, but it wasn't enough to put them through. Ivory Coast needed to win by a huge margin and hope that Brazil beat Portugal. Out of the five African teams in the tournament, only Ghana have qualified from the group stage.
Spain will now play their neighbours Portugal in the round of 16, while Brazil will play Chile. Both matches promise to be great entertainment. The round of 16 is the first knockout stage, which starts today (Saturday 26) when Uruguay face South Korea at 3pm.
Results from Friday 25:
Portugal 0-0 Brazil
North Korea 0-3 Ivory Coast
Chile 1-2 Spain
Switzerland 0-0 Honduras
