When was the last time you saw a butterfly?
Butterflies like sunshine and lavender but when was the last time you saw a butterfly ?
The silver studded blue butterfly is already extinct in Scotland and the Midlands and there is a long list of other beautiful butterflies that are endangered.
Butterflies are important, just like bees, because they help plants pollinate and, without plants, we wouldn’t be here. Plus they’re beautiful to look at and it’s worth sitting and watching them as they land on the flowers with flat surfaces to get the nectar.
At our school, Macaulay School in Clapham, we’re watching our caterpillars grow into beautiful butterflies and doing our bit to help butterflies survive.
We’re going to help with The Big Butterfly Count in July by listing the butterflies we see in our school garden and also at our homes.
Please join us in counting so we can get a true picture of Britain’s magnificent butterflies.
