Whales have to shout over humans
Humans are making so much noise that scientists have discovered whales have to ‘shout’ to hear each other over us!
Humans are making so much noise pollution that whales have to shout to talk over us!
Noise pollution, created mainly by boats, can be heard by whales up to 600 miles away. A new study shows that endangered Northern Right whales must increase the level of their calls to be able to hear each other over the noise.
Scientists are worried that we are making life even more difficult for animals like this, as it takes much more energy for them to ‘shout’. Experts are also worried that, if the noise we make increases, it will eventually become too loud for the whales altogether. They could end up losing contact with each other completely.
