We took part in a new TV show called 'Trade your way to the USA'
We took part in the first episode of a new TV show called Trade your way to the USA, which is a new business show.
Trade Your Way to the USA is a programme were teams of three compete against each other to win a place in the Grand final which was shot in New York City.
Our task was to sell fruit desserts at a farmers’ market in Milford. On the first day we brainstormed our ideas. We decided we were going to create a Pick ‘n’ Mix fruit stall, where customers could come and fill their containers with as much fruit as they wanted. Then they could add their own toppings – for example fresh cream, chocolate, marshmallows etc.
Then we went to hand-pick our fruit ourselves which, I can assure you, was not easy! After that we bargained with the owner of the farmers’ market and, fortunately, got a good price for our fruit.
Early the next day we set up our stalls ready for the customers to come and purchase our fruit. Although we learned many things such as taking risks, compromising and working properly in a team we also faced quite a few problems on the day such as facing difficult customers, running low on stock and not being able to sell towards the beginning of the day.
Fortunately, all our hard work paid off as we had won the challenge and got ourselves a place in the semi-finals.
Now we can’t wait to see if we win!
