We attempted to set a new Guinness World Record called The Big Knot
On Friday 30 September, Emmanuel School and St Mary & St Pancras School attempted to set a new Guinness World Record called The Big Knot for tying together loads of school jumpers, while at the same time raising money.
On the day, everyone brought in all their school jumpers and cardigans. Then we travelled to Regent’s Park in London by three red double-decker buses, specially given by Metroline bus company.
The day was beautiful, hot and sunny, when both schools were surprised to be greeted by a swaggering Captain Jack Sparrow. When the time came, Captain Jack ordered the children to knuckle down and start tying their jumpers to form a giant spiral, or he would make them walk the plank or tie them to the mainsail of the Black Pearl!
The minimum needed was 500 jumpers. Halfway through counting, Captain Jack announced that the target had been reached and they were still counting.
The big moment arrived and everyone held their breath in anticipation – 702 jumpers in total! SUCCESS!
We all returned back to school feeling worn out, but thrilled and pleased that our effort, enthusiasm and hard work had accomplished our goal of tying more than 500 jumpers together.
