WaterAid helps villagers in Madagascar find clean water. Read Malatiana's story:

There are 26 households in the village where Malatiana lives in Madagascar. She helps her two older brothers to collect water for the family. Now that the village has a hand pump she is able to get clean water much more easily.

Name: Malatiana  Lives: Mahaiza Province, Madagascar  Age: 10

Malalatiana says: “I used to go with my two brothers to collect water at the old source. It was slippery so I often fell down and I lost all the water and so had to go back and collect more. Twice a day I went and it gave me stomach ache as the water was yellow.

"I couldn’t go to school and had to go to the doctor. Now I can fetch water all by myself and to the loo all by myself – I’m not afraid anymore. I like the new water because the other one was yellow and now it’s clean. I want to be a nun when I grow up.”
