Tom Daley's father loses his cancer battle
The father of diving champion Tom Daley sadly lost his battle against cancer and died this week.
Tom’s dad, Robert Daley, was first diagnosed with cancer of the brain five years ago. He received treatment and accompanied Tom to many of his tournaments. In February of this year the tumour returned and he became very poorly. In a documentary for the BBC Robert said that the thought of seeing Tom compete at the Olympics kept him strong for a long time.
Tom, 17, issued a statement following the loss of his dad: “My dad was an incredibly brave man, completely dedicated to his family, with a love for all. If I could be half the dad he was, to my children, then that will be an achievement in itself. He died 14 months exactly to the start of the 2012 Olympics. I hope he will be watching and waving his big Union Jack in London from somewhere else. I love you so much dad.”

I'm not being disrespectful or anything, but it's traditionally only a Union JACK when it's flying from the bow of one of Her Majesty's Naval (or a civilian)ships... otherwise it's a Union FLAG.
