Today is Shrove Tuesday

Today is Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day. Read on to find out the traditions behind it…

Traditionally, Christians made and ate pancakes on Shrove Tuesday as a last feast before fasting and praying began on Ash Wednesday for the six weeks of Lent.

Nowadays, more people eat pancakes because they like the taste!

And, instead of fasting, those who follow Lent may give up something they like, such as sweets or their favourite TV show, or do something extra for someone else, such as sweeping their neighbour’s drive or washing the car.

Will you be celebrating Shrove Tuesday with pancakes tonight? Do you give up anything for Lent?
