Tiger Woods scores lowest round of his professional career

Tiger Woods had the worst final round and worst overall score of his professional career this week.

Woods ended the Bridgestone Invitational with a round of seven over par. That gave him a total of 298, or 18 over par. Out of 80 players, Woods was tied for 78th place, with only Henrik Stenson below him on the leaderboard.

What makes the round so surprising is that Woods has won the tournament on this course seven times in ten appearances. Woods is seen by many as the best golfer ever to have played the game, and he is used to winning. However, this week, the statistics showed that he bogeyed more holes than anyone and had the joint highest total of double bogeys. His driving was also the joint worst out of all 80 players.

Woods said that he had been patient with his game, even through four days of frustration. “Unfortunately, that’s not enough,” he said.

It is now unclear whether Woods will play for the USA against Europe in the Ryder Cup in October. He is tenth in the points list, and if he stays higher than eighth he will not be picked automatically. He would then have to rely on a pick as one of the captain’s wild cards.

“I wouldn’t help the team if I’m playing like this,” he said. “No-one would help the team if they’re shooting 18 over par.”
