Lydia Ko is the youngest ever winner of a professional golf tournament

New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko has become the youngest ever winner of a professional golf tournament.

Ko is the world’s top amateur player and was 14 years, 11 months and five days old when she won the Women’s NSW Open in Australia by four shots.

“To be part of history is like a miracle,” Ko said. “It’s not something you can have by clicking
your fingers.”

The previous youngest winner of a professional event was Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa, who won an event on the men’s tour when he was 15 years and eight months old.

“Lydia is an amazing talent,” said Ko’s 32-year-old playing partner, Lindsey Wright. “When you look at her and watch her play you don’t see a 14-year-old girl. You see a seasoned professional. She’s an amazing talent for someone so young, with a fantastic future ahead of her."
