The News Crew cooks at the Intercontinental Hotel

The News Crew cooks at the Intercontinental Hotel

Two News Crew Friends went to the Intercontinental Hotel for a day of cooking.

My great experience began when I first arrived at the Intercontinental Hotel in London for a cookery session at their Cookbook Cafe.

I was greeted by some of the hotel’s friendly chefs who had prepared a buffet lunch for me and my friend, Holly.
The food was fantastic especially the chocolate desserts!

After lunch me and my friend went to the cooking class. There were lots of snacks, sweets and decorations to choose from to decorate the gingerbread men that we were to make. We also made some apple and marshmallow snacks. We made some cheesy sticks that tasted brilliant after they came out of the oven. They tasted so good that I’ve included the recipe. Overall I had a wonderful time and learned a few recipes. My favourite was for the cheese sticks. Here is the recipe if you want to make them yourself!

Ingredients

90g unsalted  butter, chilled and cubed

175g plain flour

90g grated cheese , Cheddar or Gloucester

3 tbsp milk

1tsp marmite

Method

1. Preheat oven to 200°/ gas mark 6. Line two baking trays with baking parchment.
   2. Place the butter and flour into a bowl and using your fingertips rub together until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

3. Add the cheese and the milk and knead the dough together until it forms a ball. Then divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a small sausage.

4. Flour your surface well and roll out each pastry into a long strip. Using a palette knife place cheese sticks onto the baking trays.

5. Mix the marmite with 1tbsp hot water. Brush the broomsticks with the glaze. Bake for 10-15 minutes until lightly golden brown and enjoy.
