The famine in Somalia is getting worse

The famine in the Horn of Africa is getting worse and the United Nations is warning that 750,000 people could die there because of a lack of food.

East Africa is experiencing its worst drought for 60 years. The lack of rain has meant crops didn’t grow and animals used for food are dying.

UN refugee agency chief Antonio Guterres said that relief groups should increase aid to war-battered and drought-hit Somalis to reduce the number of people moving to neighbouring countries to try and find aid.

Around 12 million people need urgent food aid across the region. 75,0000 people may die from lack of aid and half of all deaths so far have been children.
