Laura set sail just over a year ago on 20 January 2011 and completed her voyage last week.

But Laura won’t be sailing into the record books. Dutch officials took legal action to try to stop Laura when she announced she was going to try to break the record in a small boat when she was just 13. Guinness World Records decided at that time to stop recognising records for youngest sailors because of the danger.

But, in 2010, Laura won a ten-month court battle to make the journey after saying she would buy a bigger boat and would learn things like first aid.

Laura had lots of experiences along the way including seeing her first whale.

“It dived right in front of me and got all this water on my boat, and that wasn’t really nice,” she said.
