Starving islanders rescued

Starving islanders rescued

A British sailor who anchored his yacht next to a tiny desert island was surprised to find several families who had almost run out of food and water.

Alex Bond was on his way to Australia when he stopped for a rest at Kanton Island, a tiny bit of land between Fiji and Hawaii. He found 14 adults and ten children who begged him to spare some supplies. They had almost run out of drinking water and were suriving on coconuts and any fish that they could catch.

A ship that was supposed to take supplies to the island had got stuck, so the families had gone for months without a new delivery. Bond shared anything that he could spare, and also called his local coastguard in Falmouth. They got in touch with their colleagues in the area and are now trying to find a way to deliver supplies quickly. There is an airstrip on the island that was used by the allies in World War II, so it is possible that a plane could make an emergency delivery.

I though that Alex was a nice man and it was good that he sent food as quickly as he could for the people on the island.I bet the people on the island were very hungry.
