Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur tasted victory last night after both qualifying for the next stage of the Champions League, despite both drawing in their respective games.
Tottenham Hotspur, in Group A, took on FC Twente from Holland. Spurs fought in an exciting game to draw 3-3 with 2 goals from England striker Jermain Defoe. This ensures that Tottenham qualify and win the group, along with becoming the first team in the competition to score more than 2 goals Champions League group stage.
At the same time however, Manchester United, in Group C, drew 1-1 with Valencia, seeing them qualify to the knockout stages of the Champions league. A goal from Brazilian midfielder, Anderson, in the 62nd minute ensured their qualification, but ruined their chances of becoming the first ever team, in the competition’s history, to qualify without conceding a goal in the group stage.
So far the Champions League has also seen the Glasgow Rangers draw with Turkish side, Bursaspor, Barcelona winning against Russian team, Rubin Kuzan and last year’s Champions League winners, Inter Milan, loosing a surprising 2-0 to German side, Werder Breman.
