Sport news in numbers

3 is the number of penalties that the new Aberdeen captain, Paul Hartley, scored on his debut for the club, as they beat Hamilton Academical 4-0. The last Aberdeen player to score a hat-trick on his debut was Augustus Lowe, who scored four in a 4-1 win over East Stirling in 1904.

7 is the number of times that Andy Murray has beaten Roger Federer. Murray won their twelfth match this week, the final of the Rogers Cup in the US (right).

47.04 seconds is the new 400m world record time set by Oscar Pistorius (left) in the T44 disability class. The runner actually ran 46.02secs recently, but because it was against able-bodied athletes it did not count as a record.

173 runs were scored by Somerset and Hampshire in the Friends Provident t20 final. Hampshire won because they lost five wickets, one fewer than Somerset.
