Spider silk cape goes on display at V&A Museum

A beautiful golden cape and scarf made of spider silk are going on show at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London this week.

The golden cape and scarf don't just look beautiful – they’re specially made from spider silk!

The works of art have taken eight years to make and use the silk from a million Madagascar Golden Orb spiders.

The spiders were collected every day before silk was extracted from them by trained handlers. They were then released back into the wild.

Simon Peers, who helped to make the clothes with designer Nicholas Godley, said, “As far as we know the V&A has never before shown anything made from spider silk…”

The Golden Spider Silk will be on display from January 25 to June 5.

Would you wear spider silk clothing? Would it make you feel a bit 'icky'? Are you scare of spiders?
