Should weather forecasters be punished for predicting the wrong weather?
Weather forecasters in South Africa could face a frosty punishment if they get their predictions wrong.
Meteorologists could face jail time if they get the forecast wrong!
The new rules are to try to stop forecasters from causing panics about extreme weather. Early reports of extreme or severe weather can create a panic and cause the local economy to lose lots of money. In the future, forecasters wishing to give a severe weather warning must apply for permission from South Africa’s Weather Service Bill. Fines of up to £800,000 could be issued as well as jail time for false predictions!
