Shark week!
Sea Life Centres across the UK are holding a ‘Shark Week’ this week to highlight the dangers faced by sharks today.
As several species of shark are close to extinction, Sea Life Centres are working hard to protect the animal. However, they say it is often difficult to get support for their cause because people think sharks are dangerous, thanks to how they have been shown in scary films, like Jaws.
In reality, sharks are less dangerous than the wasps that are flying around in your garden, as more people suffer lethal reactions to wasp stings than die from shark attacks each year.
So, in an attempt to change people’s minds, the Sea Life Centres have organised lots of activities to help people understand more about sharks. They have held educational talks, set up “smell stalls” so you can experience a shark’s strong sense of smell and even offered hypnosis to those with shark phobias.
Sea Life Centres hope people will see sharks in a whole new light and want to help them with their Shark SOS campaign.

i think sharks have a good reason to attack and to be honest a shark is a predator and cleans up the sea for us just like hyenas do on land. Also scientists think that sharks would help us find a cure for cancer. Also 4 out of 5 people who are killed in a shark attack have either ignored warnings about sharks, provoked them or had blood around. We kill around 5,000 or more sharks a day.
