School News story: Shevington Primary in Wigan have a Myths and Legends day

At our school we have been learning about mythical beasts, such as Pandora’s Box and Theseus and the Minotaur.

We have been reading the myths and legends and writing in our

books about them, such as telling the story from a different perspective and retelling them in a shorter version. We have written our own poems about mythical beasts like trolls, Cyclops and other fearsome beasts. Our favourite myth is Theseus and the Minotaur, where Theseus has to go into a giant maze to defeat a Minotaur (half man, half bull) to stop king Minos feeding his country to the Minotaur. Here are some of our poems!

Mr Ogre
Abby, 10

There’s an ogre around
He is going to eat me
How d’you like the ogre?

Mr Ogre, I’m scared of you
Mr Ogre, Mr Ogre

I’m hungry, I’m thirsty

Here I come,
I will eat your mum!

The Minotaur
Matthew, 10

The vicious snarling Minotaur
Stalks his prey
The graceful deer
Prances away
Aggressively pouncing
Screech, screech, screech
Sinking in his teeth
With the smell of death
Near, near, near

Chomping away on his feast
Blood dripping from his teeth
Gazelles sprint past
Will they be next in the Minotaur path?

Has your school done something interesting which you would like to tell us about?

Email us at newsdesk@firstnews.co.uk with a school story and we'll try to put it in the paper.

Very good. I like the form of mystery in the writings.
