School buys a laptop for EVERY pupil

Writhlington School in Somerset has bought a £400 laptop for EVERY pupil.

Every single pupil at Writhlington School in Somerset has been given a £400 Dell laptop to take home for school work and homework.

All 1,400 pupils will be able to hand their homework in and ask for homework help online.

The pupils' parents have been asked to donate £2 per week to 'hire' these laptops to help cover the cost of them. Even with a discount the computers cost the school around £400,000 - more than the price of a house.

it would be really fun to all have your own laptop but it is a waste of money that the school could of spent of something they really needed!

I think it is a waste. Also, if the pupils already had a computer, maybe the school could send some kind of link to it so they could do homework with their own p.c.

I think it is a waste of money and children need internet safety. Also, they should be spending that money on something to help children in other ways eg. making something to stop bullying or helping children who need help to catch up in their school work

  • sooty122 (Age 12) wrote on Sunday, 25 April 2010 @ 12:17

it's really cool that people get their own laptop but do they really need it? why dont they spend it on something that they absolutely need?

  • Yogabug (Age 13) wrote on Monday, 3 May 2010 @ 15:10

If the school can afford it, it is a fabulous idea. However, if the school can't afford it they should concentrate about buying essentials for every pupil.

  • balloonie (Age 12) wrote on Sunday, 16 May 2010 @ 18:51

it is a good idea but most people have a computer/laptop at home that they can use so it is a bit of a waste of money because the school could use it for things that are needed much more.

That is a waste of money;I would never spend that much money on laptops for pupils if I was a headteacher:

  • laurcool (Age 12) wrote on Friday, 22 October 2010 @ 20:31

  • Monkey27 (Age 14) wrote on Monday, 1 November 2010 @ 13:33

At my school everyone has an ipad ........................................... ...........................................................................................................only joking! It would be cool to get the school 2 give you a laptop each but the question is: Is it an ideal and practical thing that everyone would find easy to use???

  • niloysil (Age 13) wrote on Sunday, 25 September 2011 @ 18:20

Our school should have this laptop, but we don't have it.

  • bubbles12 (Age 11) wrote on Monday, 26 September 2011 @ 14:06

Ithink that this is totally...... wird is the word i guess. I feel they could have bought a thousand more stuff suitable from the school. I can't believe the school was not closed down. It is not supposed to happen, its not fair. What I think is that this school does not have any sense. but its up to them really. i f they think that buying laptops for pupil will improve the schools education, then let them.

  • millieboo (Age 10) wrote on Friday, 14 October 2011 @ 20:37

I think that is a bit of a waste, because the school could have bought some play ground toys, school resourses, etc. Or an ITC/ICT/IT suite!

  • SurferDog (Age 11) wrote on Saturday, 22 October 2011 @ 08:20

LUCKY! But yeah I agree with millieboo.

  • coolcatz14 (Age 11) wrote on Sunday, 20 November 2011 @ 11:27

as much as i would like a laptop myself. i is a HUGE waste of money because most people already have PCs at home and so it's gonna be of no use to them and that money could be given to charity or something actually useful!

  • DSiXL (Age 11) wrote on Friday, 6 January 2012 @ 20:42

Its a good idea but they should have considered that some pupils already have Macs and PCs at home already.

  • shoeless27 (Age 10) wrote on Wednesday, 11 January 2012 @ 16:16

  • precious49 (Age 10) wrote on Saturday, 14 January 2012 @ 12:51

  • peep45677 (Age 11) wrote on Wednesday, 18 January 2012 @ 19:24

  • Godsgift (Age 9) wrote on Sunday, 29 January 2012 @ 13:24

My school has already got an ICT place and I think that was a lot of money. Each teacher in school has a laptop and I have 14 teachers at my school.Good idea WASTE OF MONEY !

  • schools1 (Age 11) wrote on Wednesday, 8 February 2012 @ 15:24

They are like so luckey !!!!! i payed 600£ for mine out of my own money it took me 3 years to save up for it. That's just gettingspoiled.

  • bizzy4100 (Age 12) wrote on Friday, 17 February 2012 @ 23:44

I think that that is just a waste of money that the school could have used for more important things, that would improve the education of the children in the school. The people running the school should have considered that many children already have a computer or laptop at home. Not that I would mind having my own laptop, of course...

  • ash12 (Age 12) wrote on Thursday, 1 March 2012 @ 16:45

  • mabli (Age 9) wrote on Monday, 19 March 2012 @ 16:36

I would love to do that! More than a thousand pupils. Why £400, you can get laptops cheeper than that!

  • n44kta (Age 12) wrote on Friday, 27 April 2012 @ 17:15

  • AMaxiH (Age 11) wrote on Thursday, 3 May 2012 @ 08:29

  • noshi (Age 10) wrote on Friday, 4 May 2012 @ 20:31

waist of money just buy 20 ipads and share them round the school like our school in Camden, London
