Rupert Grint in new film Wild Target - watch the trailer!

Check out Ron Weasley in his role in this fab new comedy!

Although it’s hard to believe, it’s almost time for the Harry Potter series to end. Rupert Grint told us how he’s ready to put down Ron Weasley’s cloak and make more quirky films like his current comedy, Wild Target. We also found out about his new-found love of action scenes and asked whether he could be the first ginger James Bond.

Wild Target is based on the French film Cible Émouvante. Have you seen it?

I have, yes. I really loved it. It’s quite a confusing film, and we’ve changed the structure round a lot. Overall, it’s just a really funny story. It’s full of quite dark comedy.

What was it like to work on compared to your other movies?

I suppose the main difference was the budget. It was a lot lower than what I’m used to, so there’s a lot more pressure to get things right because you’re up against time.

A lot of the cast said that the initial script was particularly good. What did you think?

Much the same. All the characters were really great and the way that they all form this weird kind of family. I just thought it was a really clever script.

Was there a particular part or scene that you enjoyed filming most?

There were a few. Just playing around with the guns was really good fun! There are a lot of car chases and a lot of action sequences, which were really fun.

Do you want to do all-out action films?

I definitely enjoyed this, although my character isn’t the most deadly: he’s afraid of everything. But yes, it could be fun. Anything that’s different and a bit of a change is something that I’m keen to do.

You could be the first ginger James Bond.

Oh yes! Ha! I can’t quite see it myself!

There was a story a couple of weeks ago saying that you’d never watched a whole Harry Potter movie. Is that true?

Kind of. Obviously I’ve seen the films because I’ve been to the premieres, but I’ve never actually sat down with the DVDs and watched them all of the way through.

Do you find it hard to watch yourself?

You get used to it. I find it quite easy to detach myself from the character and then I can pretend it’s a different person, which makes it easier. I don’t cringe too much!

What questions are you bored of being asked in interviews?

Sometimes when you’re promoting a film you get one person in after another. They’ve all got their list of questions and key things that they want, but they always happen to be the same. So in those situations you can get quite… you don’t really get bored with the interview, you just get bored of yourself. Just hearing the sound of your own voice.

There are only two Harry Potter films left. Will you be sad when it’s over, or relieved that you can get on with other stuff?

I guess a bit of both. It’ll be kind of sad when we have to say goodbye. It’s been half of my life, so it’s a big deal. But it’s kind of the right time, I think. I’m ready to move on now and just to have a bit more freedom.

Your brother’s just got into rallying. Have you been to see him?

I go to a lot of rallies and watch him race. He’s really good, he’s got a real talent for it.

Have you been tempted to get behind the wheel yourself?

I would love to! I am a bit of a car fan, but I’m not allowed to do that kind of thing while I’m filming, for insurance reasons. We’re not allowed to ski or to do a lot of things.

Are you still going to make the film about the ski jumper Eddie the Eagle?

Yes. He’s a really big character and the whole story is something that my dad used to tell me about. He used Eddie as an example of the underdog. It’s a bit of a joke now, but it was an amazing thing that he did.

Would you ever have the bottle to try ski jumping yourself?

I would like to stand on top of the ramp and have a look, but I’m pretty sure I couldn’t do it. I think Eddie had the benefit of being partially blind, so he couldn’t see it!

Have you made any new additions to your ice cream van lately?

I’ve recently just had a big re-spray done. It’s kind of pink and white at the moment. It’s looking good!

Wild Target is in cinemas from Friday 18 June.
