RSPCA ask people to help hedgehogs this Christmas

This Christmas, if you’re stuck for present ideas, the animal charity RSPCA are asking for people to help chilly hedgehogs!

More than 1,700 hedgehogs were cared for by the RSPCA in 2010, lots of them hoglets (babies).

“Young hedgehogs can come into our care after being orphaned or through the colder months if they haven’t managed to reach a suitable weight for hibernation,” explains Sophie Adwick, RSPCA wildlife scientist.

Each of the baby hedgehogs needs to be fed and kept warm, which is why the charity offers virtual gifts. For £15 you can buy a snuggle pad for rescued hoglets.

It’s not just hedgehogs that are treated at RSPCA centres around the country. Seals, deer and badgers are just a few of the other animals who all need a helping hand this Christmas.
